Gourmet Latino, the first socially conscious celebration of Latin gastronomy and culture, premiered as a 3 day event in New York City on June 4th, 2010.A ground-breaking event attracting over 1,300 food, wine and cocktail enthusiasts, industry leaders and media. Held at the Astor Center in Manhattan’s fashionable NoHo area, this multi day festival featured over 30 food and beverage industry personalities, including celebrity Chefs, Aarón Sánchez from the Food Network, and Iron Chef Jose Garces. In addition the festival featured renowned mixologists Steve Olson, aka wine geek, and Junior Merino as well as other food experts and authors who showcased the regional cuisines, wines, spirits, beers, cocktails, gourmet coffees and cultural traditions of countries such as Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico and Uruguay, among others.
Gourmet Latino also partnered with Greenmarkets (a program of GrowNYC), the Rainforest Alliance and the Fair Trade Federation, because of their commitment to improving the lives of farmers in Latin American and here in the U.S. by bringing the highest quality products from socially responsible growers.
Highlights of the festival included day and evening grand tasting events such as “A Day in Latin America,” and “Live the Spirit of Carnival”. The festival also offered a series of seminars and special events that paired food from a specific region with wine, cocktails and specialty drinks from that same region. The 3 day event was capped off with an authentic dinning week that featured Gourmet Latino member restaurants, attracting an additional 5,000 diners.
